4Very pleasedJul 10, 2009

I'm very pleased with this GPS. The new IQ routing feature I believe significantly improves the routing from previous TomTom models. Even if you don't still don't like where it wants to take you, it adjusts itself quickly to where how you probably want to travel. It's still not perfect, which I don't think there is a GPS system or even an online map system that is. And of course the Mapshare system is great by allowing you to edit the maps yourself and share them. The advance lance guidance is a nice feature which can help on highways you're not familiar with.

4Not lost so muchMay 09, 2009

I find the TomTom One very good and fairly easy to use once you get used to it. The clarity on lane changes and exit is excellent and very helpful when bypassing cities. Portability is exceptional as well.

3Garmin is much betterApr 29, 2010

I own a Garmin (comparative in price)and I have tried this TomTom. The TomTom is very easy to use and set up is great. It's very compact. I like how you can download other owner's street corrections. It also has a lot of customizing features.

What I don't like.
The TomTom seems to always pick out of the way directions both in distance and in time. Garmin picks the same routes I would have taken 9 out of 10 times.

You have to manually change the display from night to day. I leave very early in the morning so I need night-time display and then I have to change it back to day-time when I'm leaving work to go home. Not a big deal, but the Garmin does it automatically based on sunrise and sunset times (a nice feature while you are driving). You also cannot change the brightness on the display (you can on the Garmin).

If you zoom out on the display, it doesn't stay zoomed out. As soon as you come to the next calculated turn, it zooms in and stays zoomed in. The Garmin also zooms in for the turn but then zooms back out to where you set it.

After using both products, I love my Garmin and I am putting my TomTom on Ebay.

5Tom Tom - my daily buddyOct 08, 2009
By WBL
I travel Sunday through Friday for work, and then sometimes I travel with my family on the weekend. My Tom Tom (affectionately known as Gator Boy, he has an Australian voice, he should be Croc boy, but Gator Boy sounds better) is with me all the way. Now my husband's Tom Tom has Homer Simpson's voice - he's not allowed to travel with me. Homer isn't, my husband is allowed!

I travel all over the country, and even took my Tom Tom to Hawaii. Works like a charm (though sometimes I take the adventurous way...lol). Highly recommended travel companion!

5So easy, a retiree can do it!Feb 08, 2010
By Laurence E. Hall
Maybe I am unlike most of you, but my gut tells me this is not the case! I have a wonderful mother. Unfortunately, she is not tech savvy. For years, we've laughed at some of her fun sayings. Our favorite, is that she is going to 'fax you an email'. Why not just write an email Mom?

Regardless, her and my stepfather, were looking for a GPS and assigned me to the task. I read all about this model and figured that this would work for them. Surpringly, they figured it out with no problems whatsoever. I downloaded the manual as I offered myself as their personal tech support. The result: I've NEVER been contacted whatsoever. Yes, I have spent many hours on the phone with them trying to teach them how to zap their temporary internet files or troubleshoot their wireless (yikes) connection. However, as soon as they put it in the car, they were able to figure out all of the features and put it to use. They've not been lost since and were even able to navigate the city of Chicago with it, a feat that they previously would not have done. This is a great GPS and you can't beat the price and amount of features packed inside.

This is a great product for anyone. Very easy menus, very easy to use and higly valuable for long car trips. Just ask my mom as I am sure she will agree!
