Very Nice Primary ColorsJul 22, 2011
By Daniel G. Lebryk Colors in this kit are two each of: Primary Colors and a Diffuser - Bright Red, Just Blue, Moss Green, and Yellow. The diffuser is a pretty good filter, the light is softened up about the same amount as a Sto-Fen cap (Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for the Canon 580EX Flash, but much less than a Gary Fong Lightsphere (Gary Fong LSUCLOUD Lightsphere Universal Cloud). For more subtle colors, the color correction kit is a good idea.
Honl filters are an elegant alternative to taping or rubber banding gels over a portable flash head. This system is a lot more expensive than the more do it yourself versions. But the gels will never fall off the flash head, full coverage is guaranteed, and the color and type of filter is printed in big bold easy to read letters.
A speed strap is required to attach these filters to a flash (HonlPhoto Speed Strap for Shoe Mount Flashes). The roll up case is a pretty good accessory to carry around these gels (Roll Up Filter Case).
There is no need to attach the full length of Velcro to the Honl speed strap. The filters are very light and really only need to be tacked on at two or three places. The more Velcro that is pushed together, the harder it will be to remove the filter. Since the speed strap is pretty wide, other accessories can be attached to that same strap.
Of course these gels will get bent, dented, and banged up. This won't affect performance at all. The Velcro appears to be attached to the gels very tightly.
A little more about the diffuser. The gel in this kit is pretty similar to placing a Kleenex over your flash (not an uncommon MacGyver trick for slightly softer light in a pinch). The effect is subtle; this isn't an inexpensive version of a softbox. To really soften light from a flash, the distance from the subject and the size of the source come into play. From 20 feet, this filter would have no effect. At six feet, there is a slight effect. The advantage of a Sto-fen or Gary Fong is that light is bounced off the ceiling and some soft light is directed at the subject to fill shadows. And, since these make the flash effectively larger, they also add a much better catch light in the subject's eyes. The filter in this kit is a one stop drop in light output, and works in a pinch. Don't purchase this set because it has the soft white difuser.

Work Great!Mar 03, 2012

"Papa-Rotzzi"
I bought these to go on a cheap flash to light up a studio background. They are not as cheap as some of the other options, but I like that they already have Velcro in place and that each filter is clearly marked with it's color (important when working in a dim studio with modeling lights as your source.). I use a Velcro "One-Wrap" Velcro One Wrap Straps, 11 x 1/2-Inches, Red, 6 Pack (90475) to attach the gels to my speedlight. Fits perfect. The color is rich. If you are used to working with this type of gel you will find these to be a good quality product at a decent price.

Quic, and easyMay 23, 2010
By Sleepy Jim My first shoot using these one of gels was a pair of matching portraits for a magazine, shot on location on different days. Quick, easy, consistent--worked perfectly to achieve the subtle hairlight effect I was after. Paid for itself in the blink of an eye (well, the flash of a strobe).
Well made, but know what you're gettingNov 16, 2011
By L. Burtner I believed that this filter set would come with one of the Velcro strips that goes around your flash. It does not.
You get 2 of each color: heavy frost, yellow, moss green, just blue, and bright red. Mine had no manufacturing issues which were mentioned in another review.

Could be betterOct 12, 2010
By Julieane Davis I recieved doubles of the colors, but no red. The glue from the velcro is leaking over the edge a little bit, so they stick to each other. You can't stack colors together to make new colors, they are too short to velcro over each other. I also had them too close to a pair of brand new pantyhose and the velcro caused a run, right before an event: but that was my own fault ;)
