5Great addition for PanoramasApr 21, 2010

I use this with my Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro Tripod Legs (Black) and my Manfrotto 488RC2 which has been replaced by the Manfrotto 488RC4 Midi Ball Head with RC4 Rapid Connect System (3271). I also use the Manfrotto 337 Hot Shoe Double Axis Bubble Level with this set up. I am very pleased. The one issue I had when I just had the head and the tripod was that you had to use the legs to perfectly level out the ball head, and in many cases this was very difficult to do. This tool makes it easy. You just set the legs so they are somewhat close, loosen the handle on the 438, adjust the 438 till your ballhead is level, then tighten down the handle and start shooting.

It makes it MUCH easier to level out. It does add some height to the setup (about 2 inches) and a little weight. I do not have exact weight numbers but I do not have an ultralight setup as it was before. I wanted it sturdy. I carry the whole unit strapped to the back of my Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack for DSLR system or DV/HDV camcorder. (Insertrolly optional) and it fits well. Because I carry it in the center back position that this backpack offers it does not throw the weight of center.

Overall, I am very pleased and highly recommend it if you intend to do a good bit of panorama shooting.

4Well builtJan 24, 2012

Like most Manfrotto products, this is also well built. This is a great find if your current tripod doesn't have a level built-in. It's also very easy to fine-tune with it's built-in features --- so you don't spent wasteful minutes adjusting your tripod in the field. It does add weight, but weight is actually good for landscape photographers. :)

Reason for only 4 stars: it's rather expensive.

5Helps reduce distortionNov 16, 2011

If you add this to your tripod between the head and the legs, it helps you easily and quickly level your shot. When you use this correctly, your pans will look right (not distorted). I love this thing. It simply makes my process easier and faster. It cuts out a serious amount of time now that I don't have to fiddle with each leg to get my shot just right.

5Amazing time saverJun 15, 2010

A tripod is essential for video to keep the horizon fixed while panning. Usually, getting the tripod level requires adjusting the length of the legs, a time consuming process. A ball head doesn't do the job because it locks in place, so you cannot pan. This ball leveler does the trick neatly. Plunk the tripod down; it doesn't have to be very close to level so long as it is stable. Unlock the ball leveler, use the bubble level, and lock it. Works great in just a few seconds!

4especially for panoramicsAug 23, 2009

Easily levels the camera for panoramics. A little heavy, but really is necessary for the best photos.
