Seems okayAug 21, 2011
By Eric in Vegas As a cheap flash this seems to perform as expected. I rarely use or need flash lighting and wanted something to learn with so this fit the bill for me on all accounts. There's no settings for choosing the strength of the flash - exposure needs to be manually set with the camera aperture & shutter settings. There seems to be a small delay - I find on my Pen that if I'm using a shutter speed faster than 1/320 it misses the flash completely or catches only part of it (closing the shutter before the light has fired). I'm not a strobist but have to assume that's normal. Fun for learning.
I haven't had any issues with batteries getting warm from too much current, but I did notice it's easy to put some of them in backwards. There's two stickers showing which way batteries go in - one on each side of the battery bay. If someone didn't notice the second diagram they might fill all 4 banks the same way (resulting in two batteries installed backwards). Look carefully inside the battery bay at all sides to understand how they should be installed.

Cheap, Plastic Flash --- Really nice resultsFeb 24, 2008
By Gondwana This flash, being used with a Holga 120N doesn't do anything more than is advertised. For the price though, it is a great product. It fired on time, every time and works surprisingly well in closer distances.

Powerful flashDec 13, 2011
By TGWOH This is to replace a previous shoe mount flash that I used with an older excellent digital camera. The Holga unit is more powerful than the previous one and with fresh batteries recharges very fast, allowing rapid shooting.
The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is that it has a fixed flash head instead of a rotatable one. But then I knew that when I ordered it.

great flashJul 10, 2010
By pickyshopper I was very impressed. The flash had a very short recovery time a few seconds. It works great for any price but was very affordable.

Good emergency flashOct 23, 2009

I needed a no-frills flash mostly just for emergencies and thought that this Holga manual shoe mount flash would be great as a temporary flash while I have the "Hot-FEET" fixed on my other "good" flashes.
Manual flashes are very limiting when mounted on the hot shoe. You have to pick the perfect film-speed(if using a film camera) and if you fix the aperature
(like I had to do for "3D" photos), and the shutter at 60th of a second to sync with the focal plane cloth shutter you have to carefully stake out the "DISTANCE" to the subject otherwise you'll have exposure issues.
It's extra work and you have to be careful but like I said "you get what you pay for".
In this case it's "exactly" what I expected.
The entire purchasing transaction went perfectly.
Thanks to all!
