5as advertisedDec 30, 2006

Looking through it with the naked eye reveals no distortions or imperfections. This is a genuine multi-coated UV filter (test this by looking at a reflection of a light source on its surface: a perfect reflection indicates no coating, a dim reflection indicates a single coating, and a green reflection indicates multiple coatings). Multiple coatings yield greater light transmission through the glass, and less glare, but (and this affects all multi-coated filters from all companies) also pick up dust, fingerprints, and condensation very easily (just holding it on the metal ring with your fingers causes condensation from your perspiration).

4Good but very fragile..Aug 21, 2007
By Marian Burnett
As per the title, this filter is great. The clarity is nice and it adds an extra layer of protection for your lens. My only complaint is that the coating is very very fragile and can get nicked off quite easily.

5Great filters for the priceApr 27, 2008
By Mediahound
I've been using these filters on all of my lenses and like them a lot for the price. I believe they perform just as well as more expensive filters from Hoya and other manufacturers. Unless you need a slim filter, there doesn't appear to be any reason to spend more.

Be sure you get the Super HMC model as it's way better (and multi-coated) than the HMC model.

5Great filterSep 18, 2009
By Nick S.
I have UV filters on all my lenses for protection, but once I started buying more expensive lenses I thought it would be silly to put a cheapo filter on them. This is a great multi-coated filter that doesn't noticeably degrade my image quality and the price is very reasonable considering how much the lenses cost. I'm very happy with this product and will continue purchasing the Hoya Multi-coated UV filters for future lenses.

5Superb Quality FilterMar 01, 2011
By Ray "A Reader"
These Hoya UV Super HMC filters really live up to their reputation: they are superbly crafted using advanced coating technologies to achieve a unique ("multi coated") format that interferes very little with light transmission, and, to boot, helps protect your lens while doing so. Although it can be argued whether or not UV filter coatings actually improve image quality of digitally-taken photographs (It is pretty clear that the benefit is there for FILM cameras, where UV rays can create unwanted color casts and lack of clarity), if you hold the filter up to the light and look through it at various angles, it seems pretty clear that the filter is doing an excellent job of helping control unwanted light biases.

Mine was manufactured in Japan, and has the feel and look of a filter that costs twice as much. It's truly a bargain in the sense of what you get for the cost, and arguably, can improve your images in outside settings. Of course, even if does not, it still fulfills the lens protection function without degrading light transmission by any appreciable degree, even when you are shooting at the widest zoom settings. An easy five star recommendation.
