Great for tellephoto and panoramic shotsNov 16, 2008
By Gary W. Sherwin

I have both a Giottos convertible tripod and monopod. Both aluminum. Have never had any problems with any of their products. I bought this item to use on my tripod, for shooting long telephoto shots. It is much easier to use for these purposes, than a ball head. I use the ball head
for macro work, and this one for long work. What I didn't expect, was
to end up using it with my monopod as much as with the tripod. A monopod
is much easier to maneuver in crowded places, and when braced against
a railing or other solid object, provides a very stable and steerable
platform for your camera. I added a quick-release to the bottom of this
and my ball-head. Now I can easily switch between the two, as the need arises.

Great UnitMay 06, 2007

Purchased this to support a Canon XTI with 100-400 L series canon zoom, a weighty setup. Great unit. The head in sitting on Bogen-Manfrotto 3021BPRO Professional Tripod (purchased without Head (Black). Together they form a get combo. Yes, you can find lighter units, but heavy means more stability.

Smooth and sturdyFeb 06, 2007

Smooth, solid and a nice quick connect mechanism. I am using for a video camera in a weatherproof case - lots of weight. Good deal.
Good bang for your buckNov 09, 2011
By photobuff Did a fair amount of research before purchasing this tripod head. I am very pleased with my decision. The quick release works very well and the fluid action is great. Being able to screw one of the handles into the back of the other for storage makes it possible to get it into my tripod storage bag while still mounted to the tripod. If you are looking for a pan head you could go a long way before finding a better one.

fragile... will shatter if dropped!Mar 30, 2010
By Joseph A. Nowak

plain and simple. Don't drop this head at all. The quick release lever will shatter at the shaft if the lever strikes the ground, rendering this equipment down to a paperweight! Replacing it with a ball head w/swiss-arca camera mount.
