4Canopus 78010138200 ADVC-PSU5V Power SupplyNov 18, 2008
By T. French
I purchased the Canopus 78010138200 ADVC-PSU5V Power Supply to use with my Canopus 77010150100. I purchased both at the same time.

I wasn't sure I would need it, but I bought it just in case I did. That way I wouldn't have to wait to receive the power supply if I did, and could get right to work converting VHS tapes to DVD.

But, I quickly learned after hooking up the Canopus 77010150100 to my computer, I wasn't going to need the power supply to run the converter.

3One of several possibilities for this use...Sep 06, 2009

This particular AC adaptor power supply WILL do the job for which it was designed...

However, any of a number of other AC adaptors will also suffice so long as they have the correct size connector with the proper polarity.

On the bottom of the Canopus ADVC110 Converter cover, molded into its plastic, is information that says the DC input can be anywhere from 5 VDC up to 30 VDC. I ran tests on my own personal Canopus ADVC110 and found that, in fact, a 15 VDC @ 350 mA AC adaptor powers this unit just fine.

See my review for the Canopus ADVC110 for a more complete description of what works if you are powering this product externally.

3Way overpriced, but does the job.Dec 11, 2010
By Jerry Saperstein
In my business, you don't cut corners, which explains why I purchased this grossly overpriced 5v AC adapter. It is what the manufacturer specifies upon pain of invalidating your warranty on their ADVC-110 converter, so I bought it.

It is nothing more than a 5v 3 amp AC adapter with an included and entirely unnecessary Firewire cable.

That said, it performs as expected, but if you don't have to play by the rule book, you can find many other less expensive alternatives.

Canopus makes excellent products, but overcharging its customers for something like this does not reflect well on the company.

5Pricey, but does the jobOct 15, 2009

For a simple voltage converter, this item is pretty expensive. The included firewire cable probably runs the price up some. I didn't need the cable and I would guess that a lot of people don't. With a little research, you can find alternatives to this product that will probably work just fine but I was not willing to take a chance on damaging my converter.

4works but expensiveJun 10, 2010

Its work fine, but expensive. I paid $34.95. I bought it for the Canopus ADVC110. Not much to say if you don't have a powered fire wire port you need it. So far converted 14 8mm tapes (2 hours each) with no problems.
