4Good replacement for Canon's remoteApr 28, 2008
By Christopher C. Allen
I thought that the price for the official Canon remote release cord was ridiculously high, so I poked around on Amazon until I found this one. I just got it, and it works fine. The unit feels solid, not cheap, and it works as advertised.

The remote uses a plunger-type switch, which I have not used since the early 80's on an old film camera. I don't see much difference in real use: in either case, you have fine control over how much you press the button to get the camera to auto focus, and then to trip the shutter.

The only thing I don't like about this model so far is that if you press the button all the way in, it will lock, and you have to hit another switch to release it. This would be fine for a long exposure, but if you are going to take a number of shots one after the other with it, I'm worried that I'll lock it by accident. (The remote release I'm most used to, for the Canon Rebel, can also lock the shutter open, but you have to make a positive movement to do so. With this model, just pressing too hard will do it.)

I'll have to see how well it works in actual use to judge whether accidental locks will be a problem.

4Nifty little itemJun 02, 2008
By S. McMurphy "stmphoto"
Ok, so I was looking for a remote shutter cable for my Canon 1D mark II. found lots of them. Some, like the Canon made items, were far to expensive. so I decided to go with this one.... the product discription does not state that it will work with the 1D mark II. But since I knew that the 5D, 20D, 30D, and 40D all have the same conecter as the 1D I though I would give it a shot.... and I am glad that I did! It works perfectly with the 1D!
I take a lot of night time long exposure shots... so this type of item is almost manditory for me... I am not disapointed at all... it has an ok feel in the hand... it is made of plastic but sturdy enough plastic... the controls are simple... and it has the old type feel to it with its release action.... it is a simple and nice product with just a little bit of retro flare... that also works on the 1D mark II. If you are looking for an inexpensive release cord that does the job... this is the cord for you
